AC Mirage- Round City Wall & Gates asset kits

At the later stage of development of AC: Mirage, i was tasked with taking the existing placeholder assets for the round city walls surrounding Baghdad's inner districts, and turning them into final quality assets. Additionally, i had to come up with a flexible modularity and create reasonable amount of assets that could be used for creating the 4 main gates along the round wall - Khufa, Basra, Damascus & Khurasan gate.
The round walls presented quite a challenge due to their slight curvature .That, and the large diameter of the ring they formed , initially created issues and random small offsets/Z-fights when trying to snap them next to each other with a 5 deg rotation for each segment. To solve this, first I tweaked the pivots of the wall segments and our technical artist Georgi Hristov provided quick & effective snapping via Houdini to form the inner & outer ring of the wall. Our texture artist Tsvetelina Valkanova created really cool stone block materials that allowed me via medium& large scale texture blend to break up & avoid obvious tiling on the materials on the huge wall surface.

For the gates, the concept provided by our art director Nikola Stoyanov, proved really useful and helped me divide a gate into enough modular pieces that could provide unique visual identity & silhouette for each of the 4 gates by switching for example the round towers with square -shaped ones, or adding a tunnel variation that has openings for market stores, like in Basra. From there, our level artists took the assembled gate groups and applied additional awesome propping on them in the level to give them more visual flavor & detail.

Additionaly, I made a set of climbable elements that used traditional for this region ornaments & shapes - the idea for the round walls was for them to not be climbable for the player, so those small slightly extruded from the wall surface assets could be used by the level designers to add a climbing path where they specifically needed one.
The domes at the top part of the gates were made by other artists - for example the awesome gold dome for Khufa was made by Alexandre Ribeiro, using awesome gold materials made by Nikolay Bonev
